Knowing Your WHY: Distributors Chime In

"You have to know your WHY. Money is not what drives people. It has to be something bigger than that." --Alton Patterson, Blue Diamond

We've spent this week talking about vision, and how WHY is more important than WHAT or HOW in both inspiring others and inspiring yourself. (Click here for the post.)

"When I first started doing network marketing, I thought the WHY concept was a little cheesy—I’ll be honest. I thought, 'I get it. You have to have a goal, a vision.' The more you participate the more you realize it’s not just about network marketing. I don’t care what you’re doing in life, you darn well better know why you’re doing it, or you’re not going to succeed."
--Natalyn Lewis, Syntek Blue Diamond

This week we've shared the WHYs of some team leaders, so you can see what vision has driven those at the top levels of the company. (Click here and here and here for the posts.) And last month we asked you to tell us your WHYs and shared some of those in our August newsletter.

If you missed that, here are a few of the WHYs that drive our distributors.

Kenetha DeBose: I have two small girls and I want to spend time with them and not working for someone who won’t value me as a person or an employee. My time is precious and so is my family.

Tobi Adewusi: My kids, my spiritual life, time freedom.

Eva Sahr: My vision is to become financially free and expand the business in our home country, Liberia, and assist in rebuilding the country after a long and destructive Civil War. Our people need to be financially free and Syntek Global holds the key.

Zenas Asenso Ansah: The joy of helping people achieve their goals both financially and socially through a medium/situation that is already crying for a solution (rising fuel prices). To prove to others that you don’t have to be part of the Elite students or graduates to make an impact on lives.

Rick Gerrish: My WHY is to give my family what I never had as a child, the option to be close as a family and allow my children to go to the college they want and have the things they need, experience real vacations and see parts of the world most never see. I also want to be able to take care of my mother and make sure she can retire in comfort, not worrying about a thing in the world.

So what is it that drives YOU? What is your WHY?

My WHY: Team Leaders Jaimes & Natalyn Lewis

As part of our vision week, we asked team leaders to share their WHY. Today, we hear from two leaders who have been with Syntek Global since the beginning. They have kept sight of their WHY throughout the entire process of building their business and are enjoying the results from  working with a vision.

(Blue Diamond) Jaimes and Natalyn Lewis: our freedom.

For us, Syntek Global has never been about driving a Ferrari and living in a mansion.  Of course it enables us financially, but really, that is just a path to what is ultimately important to us… our freedom.  We are free to give attention to, and spend time with our children and each other.  We are free from the bondage that comes with owing anyone money.  We are free to give and help others in ways that we never could before.  We are free to go travel and play. We are free to experience things that many people don't make time to do.  We are free to make choices without limitations by others who may have control of our time. That is our WHY.  And Syntek Global has provided that path.

My WHY: Team Leaders Gwen Lopes & Phil Reynolds

Image courtesy of Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Continuing with our Vision Week, here are some more WHYs from team leaders. Today, we hear from two leaders who have seen their lives completely change through Syntek Global—Blue Diamonds Gwen Lopes and Phil Reynolds.

(Blue Diamond) Gwen Lopes: to run a home for battered women and children.

I am so blessed to have found Syntek Global. I've always had the entrepreneur mindset, but haven't found the freedom that I was really looking for until I found Syntek.  I love to travel, which I have been able to do while building my business. I have the ability to give back to my parents so that they can totally enjoy their retirement years, and that means a lot to me. But my ultimate goal is to have a home for battered women and children. Now with the lifestyle and freedom I am building from being with Syntek,  I no longer just see that one home, but numerous homes throughout the country.

(Blue Diamond) Phil Reynolds: to travel and meet people all over the world

When the economy got bad in 2008, I thought I needed to search for something else that based more on a need. I always liked the concept of network marketing because you can leverage your time. So when I got a call from William about this great product that saves people money on gas, I told to him, "Great, let me take a look." After I watched the video, I joined right away.

After the first few weeks in the business, I started to earn money and I thought if I keep telling more people, the income potential could be huge. Also, it’s fun to build a business and watch it grow. Seeing the success of your business partners is also very rewarding.

My life has changed from Syntek. I'm able to travel more and meet a lot of really cool people all over the world and seeing places I probably would have never seen before Syntek.

My WHY: Team Leaders Chris Bailey & Alton Patterson

As part of our vision week, we asked team leaders to share their WHY. Today, we hear from two leaders who have in the last two months traveled to Africa, the Caribbean, or Jamaica—Team Elite Chris Bailey and Blue Diamond Alton Patterson. They epitomize the importance of having a vision and knowing your WHY. It has sustained them in their business for years, and they are still going strong.

CHRIS BAILEY (Team Elite): To help everyone to freedom that wants it.

My "Why" for joining Syntek Global" was to give my family the life WE all dream of, and to take care of my and my wife's mothers.  As time has gone along, my original "Why" is still there but it now has expanded.  Now, I'm focused on helping people change their lives all over the world.  The business is so rewarding.  I've never dreamed it could be this great.  My life is now changed forever and my goal is to help as many people have the feeling that I have as best as possible.  Helping everyone to FREEDOM that wants it.  This is "Why" I'm with Syntek Global and continue to push every day.

ALTON PATTERSON (Blue Diamond) : to retire my mom, create a stream of residual for my family, and give back to many who are less fortunate and well deserving.

Syntek Global was introduced to me by my business partner and childhood friend, Mr. Samuel Robinson. I must admit that I was not interested in getting involved, based on past experience with other companies. However, I could not deny one thing; I was personally looking for a way to cut my monthly fuel expenses. I've used others in the past with only minimal results. I decided to use Xtreme Fuel Treatment and must admit, I was quite pleased with the result—only then was my eyes open to the opportunity.

Five months after my initial and continuous usage, we decide to share the opportunity with others. I always believed in the industry and definitely wanting that product/service, that would give me a vehicle that would allow me to retire my mom, create a stream of residual for my family, give back to many who are less fortunate and well deserving. After 3 ½ years with Syntek Global, we now have business partners in more than 13 countries around the world and have yet to travel to 80% of them. I must say thanks to our four  founders for the vision, the corporate staff for their support,  and our team/partners for believing in me (without them, none of this would be possible).

We'd love to hear your WHY in the comments!

The Importance of WHY: It Trumps WHAT or HOW

Image courtesy of renjith krishnan / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

In this day and age, technology allows us to connect across the world in an unprecedented—and almost instantaneous—manner. At the touch of a fingertip, we have access to countless information, products, and businesses. The reality is people have more choice than ever before, so how do you distinguish yourself, your products, your opportunity from all the others out there?

In a phenomenal video (embedded below), Simon Sinek talks about what sets others apart and why people/businesses/ventures succeed over others who were perhaps better funded, had more resources, or even had a better product.

Those who succeed inspire others.

He then explains why some people are able to inspire and others aren’t—and it boils down to one word:
 WHY

You could also substitute the word VISION.

In his talk, Sinek clarifies that most businesses and/or businesspeople know their WHAT—what they do. (Syntek Global sells a fuel treatment system that increases fuel economy, prolongs engine life and reduces engine wear, improves vehicle performance and horsepower, and reduces harmful emissions and pollutants.)

Some know their HOW—how they do what they do. (We use a network marketing model through an organization of distributors.)

But very few know their WHY—why do they do what they do? Your WHY isn’t to make money. That’s a result. What is your purpose, your cause, your belief—your vision? That is your WHY. (We know our corporate vision, but this post isn’t about that. It’s about your vision.)

Those businesses and leaders who inspire others, garner a loyal following, and as a result succeed, are those who communicate their WHY, rather than their HOW or WHAT.

“People don’t buy WHAT you do. They buy WHY you do it.”

Now go watch this video. It is 18 minutes long and worth every minute.

This week, we challenge you to really take the time to articulate your WHY. Why are you doing this business? What is it that drives you, motivates you? And don’t say, “To make money.” The actual paper bills and coins don’t, it’s what you can do with the money. Is it financial freedom? The ability to help others?

Think about it. Write it down. Even if you have written it before, write it again. The act of putting pen to paper makes you take something nebulous and fuzzy and articulate it into something clear. Not only will you be able to more easily share that with others, but it will solidify in your own mind and make your own drive that much stronger.

“You cannot inspire unless you’re inspired yourself.” – Suze Orman, Financial Guru

Syntek Global is going to spend this week talking about VISION, because it is so important to future success. Last month distributors shared their WHYs in our newsletter, and we will revisit some of those. This week, some of our top leaders will share their WHY on the blog and Facebook. On Twitter we will post links to resources, quotes, and articles to go along with our Vision Week.

Share your WHY in the comments or let us know how you are doing in figuring it out!

Gmail Users, DON'T PANIC!

Have you heard?

Gmail is rolling out some new features (ones you don't have a choice to opt in) and they're starting to automatically filter your messages for you.

They're categorizing Syntek Global messages to you as "Promotions" so they will automatically skip your inbox.

That means that you won't see any email from

SYNTEK GLOBAL UNLESS you adjust your gmail settings!

And trust us, with all the great things rolling out over the next few months, you DON'T want to miss it!

Don't worry, this is super easy to do and takes less than 10 seconds.

(Heads up: You might not see any changes in your email yet as
Google is rolling them out to users over the next few weeks.
But make no mistake - soon your inbox is going to look and behave VERY differently)

Do this now if your inbox has been changed (or when it changes):

1. Find one of Syntek Globals emails (possibly under under the new "Promotions" tab.)
2. Click and drag it to the "Primary" tab at the top of your messages list.
3. Then make sure you click "Yes" when the yellow alert pops up.

You'll want to do this not only for SYNTEK GLOBAL emails, but for ANY emails from people you want to hear from.

Syntek Success Story: How a Little Thing Changed the Life of Kris Zelkas

Kris Zelkas of Australia knows that sometimes little things can completely change your life.

Three years ago, Kris came across Syntek Global on the internet. He was intrigued, and sent out emails to find out more information. After a week, Blue Diamond Natalyn Lewis responded. She answered all of Kris’ questions promptly and precisely.

Kris says, “From that moment forward I knew instantly that Syntek Global was the right company with the right group of people at the right time with the right solutions addressing the largest problems in the world on so many levels.”

That little thing he found online one day suddenly blossomed into a life-changing experience—and business. Within two weeks, Kris was on a conference call with Syntek Cofounders to discuss expanding into Australia. He called it a very surreal situation.

Now, Kris has business partners in over seven countries and has traveled internationally many times over the past three years—all because of Syntek. Through his Syntek Global business, he has built incredible friendships and everlasting memories and experiences. “You really do attract the right people into your life if you are willing to follow your dreams,” he said.

Kris understands that the Syntek Global opportunity isn’t just about the business, it’s about the relationships you can build with a team of like-minded, amazing people. He calls Natalyn Lewis his Syntek Mom, saying that she has been a great mentor and friend. He credits her, along with Jaimes Lewis, for helping him become the person he is today. And that influence has helped him continue to attract like-minded people into his organization.

Looking back at the journey over the last three years, Kris admits that at times it was hard. He also realizes that people will come and go. “The difference is knowing success is only one person away,” he said. “With this in mind, I have been able to build a large international organization all because I continued to take action even at times when I felt like giving up. Syntek is a tremendous opportunity, but the journey over the past three years has been priceless and I would not change any of it for the world!”

Kris is a fantastic example of persistence, and has advanced to the level of DIAMOND!

He is proof that sometimes small things can lead to great ones—if you don’t give up. His advice to others is to have patience, give it time, take action, and you can achieve whatever it is you want!
